![]() CNCM is pleased to present Composers At Work, new online programs designed to connect composers, teachers, students and families through three exciting interactive online options: Canada Jazz Monday, Canadian Composers & Kids and Composers & Educators. Teachers, students and aspiring composers now have the opportunity to interact with Canadian composers from across this great country regardless of where they live and work. Our grand launch July 12 - 14, 2021 includes two of our NEW Composers at Work programs as well as an adapted Composers & Kids featuring Canadian Jazz with Wes Froese and Christopher Norton. [more] It is with regret that Northern Lights Canadian National Conservatory of Music announces that we will be cancelling this year's Summer Sizzle event in Biggar, SK. As we continue to collectively strive to manage the pandemic, it is not possible to hold a live event such as Summer Sizzle in a safe and responsible manner. Convocation will be held as a virtual event on July 11, 2021.
While we will miss the excitement of Summer Sizzle 2021, CNCM has been busy crafting new and exciting projects to continue to support the development of music skills and talent across the country. Keep checking our website for information regarding our new Composers at Work program coming soon. Also, be sure to check out our series of YouTube videos featuring composers discussing and performing different works from CNCM publications: Northern Lights, Making Tracks and Folksong series. CNCM will continue to hold ALL spring examinations in an online format to ensure that children are able to meet their musical goals and have a continuous and purposeful plan of study. CNCM wishes to share a message of calm and normalcy with our teachers and students; while it may not be quite “business as usual”, with our planned accommodations students will continue to have opportunities for success, which will be ‘music to our ears’.
The following list may assist with process – please share with your families to create a positive experience for all:
CNCM acknowledges that live performances are always our first choice, but meeting goals is equally important and online exams make this possible. Debra Wanless CNCM Principal Registration for winter 2021 practical & theory exams as well as Coaching Classes is now open:
It is with regret that Northern Lights Canadian National Conservatory of Music, in conjunction with the local organizing committee, has decided that Summer Sizzle 2020 in Biggar will be postponed due to public health concerns linked to the
COVID-19 pandemic. The event will instead be scheduled for July 12 and 13, 2021 in Biggar, Saskatchewan. While it is disappointing to have to make this decision, in doing so we have considered the health and safety of all those who come together to plan, participate in, and otherwise enjoy the unique experience of Summer Sizzle. As well, it is our responsibility to support society’s efforts to tackle this global health challenge. We would like to thank the many prospective participants – composers, teachers, students, families – for your understanding of the unique challenges we are facing at this time. If you have already registered for the event, you will be hearing from us in the coming days regarding refunds. Thanks, and stay well everyone. See you in Biggar in 2021! The Canadian National Conservatory of Music is pleased to announce the 2018-2019 Silver Medalists from Pre-Performance to Grade 8. Congratulations to all of our Silver Medalists!
![]() It is with sadness that we share the news of the passing of Rémi Bouchard, composer, music teacher, faithful friend and supporter of CNCM. Rémi died Monday, September 2, 2019 at the age of 83. A prolific composer from Neepawa, Manitoba, Rémi contributed to many volumes of both of CNCM's repertoire series Northern Lights and Making Tracks. Rémi was also a frequent guest composer at Summer Sizzle. A composer entirely self-taught, he was strongly influenced by French and English composers. The core of his work has always been a concern for, and commitment to, his environment. In 2010, the Manitoba Foundation for the Arts Inc. presented Rémi with the "Above and Beyond Award for the Arts". Both Conservatory Canada and the Northern Lights Canadian National Conservatory of Music recognized him with an Honorary Licentiate in 1999 and 2003 respectively. Rémi will be greatly missed within the CNCM community and beyond. |
