If you're anything like me, this is the time of year that all the letters come in, asking for monetary support for every imaginable medical cause, environmental catastrophe and social injustice. It can be a depressing time, when there is so much need in the world, and only so much money to go around. In contrast, I would like to offer you a delightful opportunity to support a “home-grown” organization that promotes excellence in musicianship, and allows Canadian kids to benefit from an incredible music programme.
It is a well-researched and documented fact that children involved in musical training do better in both academic and social circles. Actively being involved in music is a great alternative for the ever increasing time spent on-screen for so many youth.
The Northern Lights Canadian National Conservatory of Music is Canada's fastest growing conservatory of music, and no wonder- since its inception in 2002, its mandate to support and nurture the composition, study and performance of music has been met and exceeded overwhelmingly. Not only has a piano student curriculum been created, offering a full ten grades with Canadian piano repertoire, but there are Diploma courses in Piano Pedagogy and Performance, a full line of music publications featuring works by well-known and up-and-coming Canadian composers, workshops featuring (real-live Canadian!) Composers and Kids, as well as Summer Sizzle, a music camp held for teachers, kids and composers, alternating yearly between Ontario and Saskatchewan. We now have examination centres in 8 provinces, reaching thousands of teachers, students and other music professionals.
Much of this success has been due to the vision and countless hours of time donated by dedicated volunteers, under the inimitable leadership of Principal Debra Wanless . We would like to offer you the opportunity to be part of this vibrant, growing organization as we expand, to allow even more children to benefit from the impact of CNCM's rewarding programmes, as a creative, but structured outlet in a world of chaos.
Your support can help in many ways:
$ 75.00 helps publish one composition by a Canadian composer $ 250.00 helps pay for a child attend Summer Sizzle Keyboard Kamp $ 500.00 provides a scholarship for a promising, young student $ 1,000.00 establishes you as a CNCM patron
Your donation of any amount will enhance the musical education of young musicians.
Whatever amount you choose to contribute is income-tax deductible, as we are a charitable organization. Your consideration of this program is appreciated.
