Composers & Kids

"Composers & Kids is the kind of initiative that gets kids inside music."
-- Lawrence Jones, retired professor, Brandon University
Composers & Kids is a unique program offered by Northern Lights Canadian National Conservatory of Music that promotes exposure and connection to Canadian music and composers.

Through Composers & Kids, CNCM is partnering with private studios and music organizations to bring Canadian composers to piano students in their own community.  Students, teachers, families and composers come together to share Canadian music in a relaxed and inspiring setting.
  • Students will benefit by performing and sharing compositional ideas with our amazing Canadian writers.
  • Teachers create inspirational musical memories in a comfortable educational setting.
  • Families are brought together by real Canadian music stories and ideas.

  • Cost will vary depending on travel, composer fees, accommodations, etc.)
  • Funds may be raised through sponsorships, grants, registration fees, etc.
  • Every music student will benefit from performing for the visiting composer
  • Level and skill should never be a deciding factor
  • Teachers are also welcome to perform at C&K events
  • Invite all students within your community
  • Students will benefit the most by performing a work by the visiting composer
  • Students may perform any work from the CNCM collections of Northern Lights or Making Tracks
