CNCM will continue to hold ALL spring examinations in an online format to ensure that children are able to meet their musical goals and have a continuous and purposeful plan of study. CNCM wishes to share a message of calm and normalcy with our teachers and students; while it may not be quite “business as usual”, with our planned accommodations students will continue to have opportunities for success, which will be ‘music to our ears’.
The following list may assist with process – please share with your families to create a positive experience for all:
CNCM acknowledges that live performances are always our first choice, but meeting goals is equally important and online exams make this possible. Debra Wanless CNCM Principal

It is with regret that Northern Lights Canadian National Conservatory of Music, in conjunction with the local organizing committee, has decided that Summer Sizzle 2020 in Biggar will be postponed due to public health concerns linked to the
COVID-19 pandemic. The event will instead be scheduled for July 12 and 13, 2021 in Biggar, Saskatchewan. While it is disappointing to have to make this decision, in doing so we have considered the health and safety of all those who come together to plan, participate in, and otherwise enjoy the unique experience of Summer Sizzle. As well, it is our responsibility to support society’s efforts to tackle this global health challenge. We would like to thank the many prospective participants – composers, teachers, students, families – for your understanding of the unique challenges we are facing at this time. If you have already registered for the event, you will be hearing from us in the coming days regarding refunds. Thanks, and stay well everyone. See you in Biggar in 2021! The Canadian National Conservatory of Music is pleased to announce the 2018-2019 Silver Medalists from Pre-Performance to Grade 8. Congratulations to all of our Silver Medalists!
It is with sadness that we share the news of the passing of Rémi Bouchard, composer, music teacher, faithful friend and supporter of CNCM. Rémi died Monday, September 2, 2019 at the age of 83. A prolific composer from Neepawa, Manitoba, Rémi contributed to many volumes of both of CNCM's repertoire series Northern Lights and Making Tracks. Rémi was also a frequent guest composer at Summer Sizzle. A composer entirely self-taught, he was strongly influenced by French and English composers. The core of his work has always been a concern for, and commitment to, his environment. In 2010, the Manitoba Foundation for the Arts Inc. presented Rémi with the "Above and Beyond Award for the Arts". Both Conservatory Canada and the Northern Lights Canadian National Conservatory of Music recognized him with an Honorary Licentiate in 1999 and 2003 respectively. Rémi will be greatly missed within the CNCM community and beyond. CNCM would like to offer many thanks to all the participants who made Summer Sizzle 2019 in Owen Sound truly memorable: students, teachers, composers, clinicians, parents, grandparents, friends, and organizers and, volunteers! Look what a community coming together, blessed by music can do! The following are words from Nancy Telfer (who holds an Honorary Licentiate from Northern Lights CNCM), read aloud at the Convocation Gala at SS: Dear Friends, If some day you should ever wonder about the who or what or why of your life, then remember this: We are the music makers. Our fortes thunder and we know the magic of how to get sweet whispers from a piano. We are the people who count. We count beats and bars; we keep track of time. We understand the small details and the luxurious stretches of time. We are the melody makers and with our melodies we can make eagles soar and lions roar. We are the harmonizers. We can fill a room with such a richness of sound that it makes everyone feel bigger. We are the movers and dancers. We participate in the flow of life; the slow, graceful rotation of the earth; the leaps; the whirls. But, most of all, we are the dreamers. We imagine sounds so beautiful or so expressive that words can not describe them. We are the music makers. Please check out our Facebook page for pictures, updates and experiences from the event! We are pleased to announce the draft schedule for Summer Sizzle/Keyboard Kamp 2019 in Owen Sound. This schedule is subject to change at anytime, so please check back for updates!
